Manchester City welcome the Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain to the Etihad tonight, looking to continue their 100 per cent start to the season (8pm, TNT Sports 1 and HBO Max).
Enzo Maresca’s side have won all six Premier League games and beat Porto 2-0 away in gameweek one of this competition, but they sit below PSG on goal difference after they thrashed Slovan Bratislava 6-1 thanks largely to a hat-trick from Ferran Torres and two more from Ousmane Dembele.
Things haven’t quite gone to plan in Ligue 1 though, starting the season with two draws and a defeat to Monaco, but they have won their last three on the bounce to move them up to sixth in the league table, just three points behind leaders Monaco.
After winning back-to-back Champions League titles, it’s not hard to imagine Luis Enrique’s side lifting the trophy for a third straight year, and most betting sites rate them as a 13/2 chance
However, football betting sites have installed Barcelona as the favourites at odds of 4/1, while City are the sixth favourites at 9/1, just behind Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Tonight’s meeting at the Etihad, under the watchful eye of former boss Pep Guardiola, will be the ninth meeting between the two sides, and it’s City who lead the head-to-head four wins to two while the other two have ended all square.
The French side did win their most recent encounter, though when they came from 2-0 down in Paris to win 4-2 thanks to goals from Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola, Joao Neves and Goncalo Ramos.
City have won all three Champions League ties at home by an aggregate 5-1 scoreline, and Kylian Mbappe scored PSG’s only goal in a 2-1 defeat back in 2021.
City are the favourites for victory across the board on football betting sites, while you can get 21/10 on a PSG win.
Maresca’s side have scored 23 goals so far this season and conceded just five, and three of those came in a 5-3 win over Sunderland. PSG have scored 19 and conceded seven.
Another game and the potential for more records to be broken by City striker Erling Haaland.
The 26-year-old has scored 59 goals in 59 Champions League matches and if he plays tonight, he will set a new record for the most goals by a player in his first 60 games. It currently stands at just 48 and is held by former PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
He is also currently City's joint-record scorer in the Champions League, level with Sergio Agüero on 36, so could break that record too this evening.
Haaland is 10/11 betting apps to score at any time or 7/2 to score first, as he has done five times apiece so far this season.
He has scored eight goals in his last six games, including braces against Crystal Palace and Porto, in this competition.
Man City: Phil Foden is available for selection despite serving a three-match domestic ban for his red card against Man United, while Jeremy Doku could also come into contention for a start after a goal and an assist from the bench against Liverpool on Sunday.
PSG: Senny Mayulu is the only doubt for the visitors after suffering a dead leg, so a late decision will be made on his availability.
Man City: Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Gvardiol; Anderson, Fernandez; Semenyo, Cherki, Doku; Haaland
PSG: Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Torres, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia
